Many will confess that life in our twenties is filled with a mix of newfound freedom, amazing opportunities, a host of life lessons and the unavoidable growing pains. One quickly learns while there are many things to look forward too, there is also a laundry list of things you never expected to encounter in life. In the seasons of life, you can experience the most amazing moments that bring tears of joy. On that same note, you can face some of the most life altering challenges that bring tears of sorrow. So how do you handle it all? Master the art of healing. Whether it is a physical or emotional injury, life requires time to heal. The well-known cliché is that “time heals all wounds”, as you journey through life you will discover that it is actually not time by itself that produces healing. Years can go by but if the condition of your heart remains the same, then healing will not just automatically take place. You must be willing to embark on the journey, own your part and prepare for the roller coaster of emotions that arise during the process.

It is essential to keep in mind that healing will look different for everyone; comparing is pointless. I’ve found myself completely stuck in this. It never served me.  Accepting this is a huge part of the process, along with “being Ok, with not being ok”. Accept that you may have to heal without ever hearing an apology. Accept that some days you may pull the covers over your head and hit the snooze button and that’s ok.  As long as you ultimately get up and decide to give life your best shot and not quit. Whatever actions you commit to taking to reach your healing, make sure you show up for yourself.

Most people make a list and goals to reach for the next 12 months. For many, self-love or self-care is at the top of the list. However, the act of self-love is more than a new year’s resolution or the latest trend on social media, it is a true sign of healing during one’s journey. When you are healed you discover that loving oneself is vital key to your life and makes doing for others possible. If your tank is on empty, you cannot offer anyone else a ride to their destination. Healing allows you to refill your physical, spiritual and emotional gas tank first to ensure you can reach your own destination, and then you can focus on helping others along the way. Regardless of what cards life hands to you, decide to make healing your ace in life.
